Like many advanced computer users, AppNee hasn’t touched Firefox for several years, and this post is purely a complement to our “ Portable Editions of All Web Browsers in one place” post (Firefox is still an available web browser, after all). Firefox used to be a unique browser, but now it’s as bad as Opera – not even as good as Internet Explorer in performance.
But these days, Safari (15.97%) and Firefox (4.33%) account for at most 20% of the entire web browser market, all the rest belongs to Chrome. In 2013, Firefox accounted for 78% of the world’s web browser market.
It has a 42-week upgrade cycle, compared with about 6 weeks for other editions. Thereinto, the ESR ( Extended Support Release) edition is specially built for organizations, companies that are unable or unwilling to upgrade frequently. Firefox has been released as multiple editions in order to meet the needs of different users. It uses the Gecko layout engine, supports multiple operating systems, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS. Mozilla Firefox (originally called Phoenix, then Firebird) is a free and open-source web browser developed in 2002.
